What is YOUTUBE PREMIUM on my bank statement?

This is your YouTube Premium subscription, billed by Google. It removes ads from YouTube and includes YouTube Music.

YouTube Premium

✓ Legitimate charge

GOOGLE*YOUTUBE or YOUTUBE PREMIUM on your statement is your YouTube Premium subscription — Google's paid tier that removes all adverts from YouTube and bundles YouTube Music at no extra charge. Because Google owns YouTube and processes all its payments, the charge will always show a Google-branded name on your bank statement rather than just "YouTube".

There are three main plans. The Individual plan at £13.99/month covers a single Google account. The Family plan at £22.99/month covers up to six family members living at the same address — each gets their own ad-free YouTube and YouTube Music. There is also a discounted Student plan available if you verify your enrolment through an eligible university; this typically costs around half the individual price but must be re-verified annually.

One thing that catches people out is that YouTube Premium occasionally runs free trials — these can last one, two, or even three months depending on the promotion. When the trial ends, billing begins automatically at the full rate. Google sends a reminder email before charging, but it can be easy to miss. If you think you cancelled but are still being charged, it is worth checking that you cancelled from the same Google account that holds the subscription — many people have more than one Google account.

Questions about YouTube Premium charges

What is YouTube Premium on my bank statement?
YouTube Premium is Google's paid tier that removes ads from YouTube and includes YouTube Music at no extra cost. The charge appears as GOOGLE*YOUTUBE or YOUTUBE PREMIUM because all YouTube billing is processed through Google's payment systems. If you see it on your statement, you have an active YouTube Premium subscription on one of your Google accounts.
How do I cancel YouTube Premium?
Go to youtube.com/paid_memberships while logged into the correct Google account and click Manage, then Cancel membership. Alternatively, visit payments.google.com to see all active Google subscriptions in one place. You will keep full Premium access until the end of the current billing period, and you will not be charged again after that.
Why does it say GOOGLE not YouTube?
Google owns YouTube and handles all of its billing through Google Pay infrastructure, so your statement will always show a Google-branded description such as GOOGLE*YOUTUBE rather than just YouTube. This is completely normal and not a cause for concern — it is the same subscription you signed up for.
Is YouTube Premium worth it?
For heavy YouTube viewers who find adverts disruptive, many users find it valuable — particularly as it also covers YouTube Music, which competes directly with Spotify. The Family plan at £22.99/mo for up to six people works out to under £4 per person per month including YouTube Music for everyone, which makes it exceptional value if you can fill the family slots.
Can I get a refund?
Google's standard policy does not offer refunds for subscription periods already paid, but if you were charged after a free trial you believed you had cancelled, or if you were billed in error, contact Google support via support.google.com and explain the situation. They often make exceptions for genuine mistakes, particularly for first-time charges after a trial.
