What is KLARNA on my bank statement?

This is an instalment payment for something you bought using Klarna's buy now, pay later service at checkout.

Klarna — buy now, pay later

⚑ Worth checking

KLARNA or KLARNA*PURCHASE is a payment to Klarna, a Swedish buy now pay later (BNPL) financial service. Klarna is integrated into thousands of online retailers — when you choose "Pay in 3" or "Pay Later" at checkout on sites like ASOS, H&M, or many others, Klarna handles the payment and collects it from you in instalments.

The charge on your statement is one of those instalments — typically one of three equal payments collected over 60 days from the original purchase date. The statement shows Klarna as the merchant rather than the actual retailer, which is why it can be confusing.

Klarna also offers "Pay in 30 days" (one payment after 30 days) and longer financing options. The charge on your statement could be any of these products. Klarna sends SMS and email reminders before each payment is due.

Questions about Klarna charges

How do I find out which purchase the Klarna charge is for?
Log into the Klarna app or klarna.com with the phone number or email you used at checkout. Go to My Klarna → Purchases. Each order shows the retailer name, the original purchase amount, which instalment you're on, and when remaining payments are due.
Can I dispute a Klarna charge if I returned the item?
Yes. If you've returned an item to the retailer, Klarna should pause your payments while the return is processed. Open the Klarna app, find the relevant order, and select "Report a problem." Klarna will contact the retailer and pause the remaining payments until the return is confirmed. Keep your proof of return.
Does Klarna charge interest or fees?
Klarna's "Pay in 3" and "Pay in 30" products are interest-free. Klarna's longer financing options (6-36 months) do charge interest. Missing a payment on any product can result in late fees. Check the Klarna app for the specific terms of your purchase.
I didn't use Klarna — why is there a Klarna charge on my statement?
Some retailers default to Klarna at checkout or have Klarna as the only payment flow, so customers may not realise they've signed up for a Klarna instalment plan. If you genuinely did not make the underlying purchase, contact Klarna's customer service and your bank simultaneously to dispute the charge.
