AUDIBLE* or AUDBNZ*AUDIBLE on your statement is your Audible membership fee. Audible is Amazon's audiobook and podcast platform, and its credit-based subscription system means you pay a set amount each month in exchange for credits that can each be redeemed for one audiobook title — regardless of how expensive that book would normally cost to buy outright.

Audible offers two main paid plans: 1 credit per month for £7.99 and 2 credits per month for £12.99. Each credit redeems a single audiobook, even bestsellers that retail for £20 or more. Members also get a 30% discount on any additional audiobooks they buy beyond their monthly credits. If you regularly listen to multiple books a month, the 2-credit plan saves money quickly.

If the charge on your statement is higher than your usual plan price, it is likely because you purchased one or more additional audiobooks on top of your monthly credits — these appear as separate line items in your Purchase History but are sometimes grouped onto the same monthly statement date. It is also worth noting that Audible is separate from Amazon Prime: Prime membership does not include Audible Premium Plus credits, though it does give access to the smaller Audible Plus catalogue of included titles.

Questions about Audible charges

What is Audible on my bank statement?
Audible is Amazon's audiobook subscription service. The monthly charge gives you one or two credits to redeem for any audiobook in their catalogue, plus member-only discounts on additional purchases. The billing code appears as AUDIBLE* or AUDBNZ*AUDIBLE depending on your bank.
How do I cancel Audible?
Log into audible.co.uk, navigate to Account Details and select Cancel Membership. You can also cancel via your Amazon account under Memberships & Subscriptions. Audible sometimes offers a pause option (3 months) as an alternative to cancelling outright, which keeps your library intact and resumes automatically. All previously downloaded audiobooks stay in your library forever regardless of which option you choose.
What happens to my audiobooks if I cancel?
Every audiobook you have redeemed with a credit or bought outright remains in your Audible library permanently and can still be listened to via the Audible app. You simply lose the ability to earn new credits each month and lose the 30% member discount on future purchases. Nothing you have already acquired disappears.
Why am I charged more than my plan price?
Extra charges usually mean you bought additional audiobooks beyond your monthly credit allowance, perhaps impulse purchases at the discounted member price. Check your full Purchase History at audible.co.uk — every transaction is listed with a date and title, making it easy to identify what each charge was for.
Is Audible part of Amazon Prime?
Audible Premium Plus (the credit membership) is a completely separate service from Amazon Prime and costs extra. However, Amazon Prime members do get access to the Audible Plus catalogue — a selection of titles you can listen to for free as part of your Prime membership, without spending credits. If you want to use credits to get any audiobook in the full catalogue, you need a paid Audible membership on top of Prime.
